I think we have been fooling ourselves in this country for a long time into believing that:
1. We are pluralistic.
2. We are a melting pot.
3. There is separation of church and state.
There has never been true separation of church and state yet we have been able to get away with it until recently because of our homogeneity. The biggest differences were, for example, are you protestant or catholic or jewish? We had some philosophical debates but our differences have been relatively minor enabling us to have the word god spattered all over documents, tender and traditions.

Now the cultural rubber is meeting the road. Globalization, and true pluralism are happening and we are NOT doing a very good job of assimilation. We seem to be legislating exceptions and forcing integration (think moments of silence mandated in schools). The natural order of things seems to be that like peoples group together yet we seem to be mandating integration. Seems like reverse segregation. Thoughts?

It has seemed attainable for a long long time. Immigrants from all over the world have come here and become a part of the fabric that is America. what we seem to have now are large groups of immigrants, mostly illegal, who don’t want to become part of America but would rather change it to suit their tastes………
We are Pluralistic… That is TWO forms of government combined to make one. Those two are Democracy and a Republic. We are a Melting Pot…. look at the huge amount of Illegal Aliens pouring into this country.. With non-secured borders such as that, ‘The Decider’ in office has assured an ‘in’ for any terrorist.
Seperation of Church and State? The seperation the Constitution refers is seperation of State and Federal Government:
Written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789, the United States Constitution is the world’s longest surviving written charter of government. Its first three words – “We The People” – affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens. The supremacy of the people through their elected representatives is recognized in Article I, which creates a Congress consisting of a Senate and a House of Representatives. The positioning of Congress at the beginning of the Constitution reaffirms its status as the “First Branch” of the federal government.
The Constitution assigned to Congress responsibility for organizing the executive and judicial branches, raising revenue, declaring war, and making all laws necessary for executing these powers. The president is permitted to veto specific legislative acts, but Congress has the authority to override presidential vetoes by two-thirds majorities of both houses. The Constitution also provides that the Senate advise and consent on key executive and judicial appointments and on the ratification of treaties.
For over two centuries the Constitution has remained in force because its framers successfully separated and balanced governmental powers to safeguard the interests of majority rule and minority rights, of liberty and equality, and of the central and state governments. More a concise statement of national principles than a detailed plan of governmental operation, the Constitution has evolved to meet the changing needs of a modern society profoundly different from the eighteenth-century world in which its creators lived.”
Frankly, with that moron in office, I see a Authoritarian …or maybe a Imperialistic… or maybe a Facist or maybe all of the above, government… making it Pluralistic in Nature.
As far as God goes… well The Constitution does state we have certain “inalienable” Rights, Rights that we are born with.. NO ONE, not even The Moron can take those away from us. They are God-Given Rights. Our Constitution is based on God Given Rights.
I don’t know anyone that actually believes there is seperation between Church and State…? Not sure what it is we supposedly have gotten away with…?
I think in school, we should be pushing School Boards to initiate ‘Political Science’ in High as at very least, an elective in the last two years. On the brink of voting, and they have no clue as to their ideologies, or what that even means—I’ve been asking!
Why we are Pluralistic, and always have been:
Democracy:
1 a: government by the people; especially : rule of the majority b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections”
Republic:
1 a (1): a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president (2): a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government b (1): a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law (2): a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government”
However, as also mentioned, perhaps the FORMS of Pluralism have just changed!
Just some thoughts…..
