I love the melting pot, I’ve been a couple times. Yes it is a little pricey, but you can make it more affordable. I went onto their website if you put in your zip code you can find your local restaurant and get their menu.
I’m not a big cheese fan, so unless we have a large group we skip the cheese course. I prefer the Wisconsin trio when we do get cheese. I love all of the salads. I like to get a variety of protiens so we usually something like the Pacific Rim which has beef, chicken, port and seafood. I have tried all the cooking styles, but I prefer the oil, the Coq au vin would be my second choice.
We went for my birthday a few years ago with over a dozen people so we order a wide variety. I discovered several people in my family had food issues. A few family members had issue with raw food on the table and the potential for cross contamination, so pay attention when they give instructions about how to cook and eat the food if that is a concern. I don’t think it’s a big deal I cook at home an know not to use the utensils I handled raw meat with to eat off of.
Depedning on how many people you are taking you may only order a single entree. I would look at the menu ahead of time and get a game plan, if everyone orders what they want then it will be very expensive and you will have too much food. If you get salads a single entree can feed 3-4 average eaters. Plan on spending a lot of time, a couple hours, you will be cooking every bite of food. DO NOT skip the dessert, the chocolate fondue is worth making a separate trip for.

I’ve been, once, to the Melting Pot in Reno, NV, and I have to say that I wasn’t impressed.
To be fair, I happened to be in on a night that the whole kitchen walked out, so it was just the servers and the manager. (The manager was actually waiting on my table.) Service was friendly, if a little harried.
It’s a bit on the pricey side, but the food’s not bad. Good wine list with reasonable prices. The dessert is great, too.
Speaking as a chef, I like that it’s one of the restaurants that the customer can’t complain if the food’s not cooked right, because they do it themselves..
