You pour warm salt water into one nostril and let it run out the other. I had been using it just to clear out the mucus and other residual matter.

Then I discovered a book in my local Indian store. Adding herbs to the water and running them through the nose is a way of administering herbs to yourself.

The ones I’ve been using most recently are:
Tulsi
Sandlewood
Nutmeg (promotes sleep) and
ginger.
